Er is de laatste tijd veel te doen geweest rondom cross-platform gaming. Wanneer dit laatste is toegestaan kunnen PC gamers bijvoorbeeld tegen Xbox One of Nintendo Switch eigenaren spelen, toch besluit Sony tot nu toe vanaf de zijlijn toe te kijken.
Ook Bethesda is groot voorstander van cross-platform gameplay, zo ook voor hun aankomende game The Elder Scrolls Legends. Deze strategische kaartgame draait om zowel de single- als de multiplayer en bij dit laatste willen ze niemand uitsluiten. Niet alleen willen ze cross-platform gameplay ondersteunen, ze willen ook dat je progressie op ieder platform voortgezet kan worden.
Om dit laatste te bewerkstelligen neemt Bethesda nu een duidelijk standpunt in: ondersteunt een systeem geen cross-platform gameplay dan is de kans aanwezig dat The Elder Scrolls Legends niet op dit systeem zal worden uitgebracht.
quote: "It is our intention in order for the game to come out, it has to be those things on any system. We cannot have a game that works one way across everywhere else except for on this one thing. There's no 'Oh, it's easier to control, or it has a better frame-rate on this system.' It's a strategy card game. It doesn't matter."
Hoewel Hines Sony of de PlayStation 4 niet bij naam noemt is het vooral deze partij die momenteel de boot af lijkt te houden. Hines geeft aan dat ze nog altijd gesprekken voeren met de 'platform partners' maar dat ze tegelijkertijd niet willen onderhandelen:
quote: "We can't be talking about one version of Legends, where you take your progress with you, and another version where you stay within that ecosystem or its walled off from everything else. That is counter to what the game has been about."
