Na Guitar Hero: Aerosmith en Guitar Hero: Metallica wil Activision meer groepspecifieke Guitar Hero spellen ontwikkelen, en de volgende wordt Guitar Hero: Van Halen waarin de halve Nederlanders Eddie en Alex de hoofdrol spelen.
Maandenlang stond Guitar Hero: Van Halen voor 7 augustus gepland, maar de game werd recent voor onbepaalde tijd uitgesteld. Nu laat Activision weten dat de game op 22 december in Amerika zal verschijnen. Een Europese releasedatum is er nog niet. Activision onthulde wel de setlist van de game. In de eerste plaats bevat de game natuurlijk een hoopje Van Halen nummers.
